Blood For The Blood God!

Realm of Chaos Khorne Warband

Greetings fellow wargamers! This was a fun project Whiskey Priest organized last year but I never got around to blogging about it. I was organizing my hobby room and finally got my act together and took some decent pictures.

My Undead Army

Dem Bones in the New World!

Well I said I would never do it, but here we are... I've wanted to collect an undead army ever since I saw Richard Gunson's undead army in White Dwarf 142. My first Warhammer Fantasy army was Orcs and Goblins and stuck with those through a couple different editions. I always told myself that I would never go down the rabbit hole of collecting undead, but then I got a few sprues of skeletons in a trade and all of a sudden I'm staring at 2000 points of painted undead. Funny how life works.

Skirmish Gaming Frenzy!

Big time fun with small games

Welcome back readers! Its been a busy couple of months and I've got some great games in with people from all over the US community. Over the summer I got together with Grove and Maj Guiscard in Illinois to play a weekend campaign, The Fight for New Texas. It was a great campaign which you can read up on over on Give 'em Lead and The Governor General of Sector Six. I also made it over to Historicon in Lancaster and had a bit of an impromptu Oldhammer USA meetup. Last weekend was Oldhammer US in New Jersey, and we are just wrapping up Monolithcon III in Illinois again.

Over the past few months, I've had a chance to put several rule sets and house rules to the test and have come up with great ideas for developing a framework for a campaign. I'll cover some of those rules and what I thought worked well and what didn't.

Dark Elves Invade The Old World!

The Chronicle of Rakarth Iceheart begins...

On a chilly autumn morning, a young peasant boy caught the terrifying sight of dozens of black sails off the coast of his home in Lyonesse. Alarmed, he turned and began to run back towards home to warn his village of the oncoming menace. The boy ran so hard that he could feel his heartbeat throbbing in his skull. Just then he felt as if a horse had kicked him in the chest and he was thrown on his back, all the air had been knocked out of his lungs. He was dizzy and confused when it seemed like the world around him began growing dark. He looked down at his chest and was horrified to discover three black crossbow bolts embedded in his torso. He tried to scream but he could not find the breath. The world went black.

Holy Grail Found!

Consult The Book of Armaments!

I don't know if everyone has a certain miniature that is their "holy grail", but I do. I actually did own this figure as a kid, but it was lost in a move or probably tossed out with some other miniatures when I left the house. In any case, I had been keeping an eye out for this particular figure for years. If you're not familiar with this guy, he is the Elites gang leader from the short lived Confrontation line, the precursor to Necromunda.

Too Much Beer and Pretzels

It's time to step up the game

The hobby has been great to me over the past few years. Through the Oldhammer Forum and community events like BOYL and NOVAOSGROT I've been able to meet some very talented like-minded hobbyists. There have been more Oldhammer related super-secret Facebook miniature projects and Kickstarters over the past two years than you can shake a stick at. The icing on the cake is that I've been able to correspond with other hobbyists and really ramp up the productivity level. I've been fortunate enough to be able to get my painted figures on the same table as some of the figures I had only ever seen on other blogs and forum posts.

THAT. BEING. SAID.

It's time to step it up on the gaming front. While i'm all about beer and pretzels gaming, it's time I really step up my gaming efforts. While its been loads of fun to be able to just throw stuff on the table and have great time rolling dice, it's time we got our act together and put together some really well planned games and campaigns.

Orktober Diorama

Last stand!

Greetings interwebs peepulz! Sorry its been so long since an update. With work and real life its been a challenge to get back to regular blogging, not to mention the whole photobucket debacle. I haven't been silent on the hobby front, I've just focused on getting projects done and getting together with friends to actually roll dice.

No more words... PICTURES!

Space Bastards!

We Need A Few Not-so-Good Men

So a couple things... first Photobucket sucks big hairy balls.

Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I present SPAAAACE BASTARDS!!

This summer I had the chance to go over to jolly England to attend BOYL and meet up with many of my favorite forum and blogosphere personalities. One of those guys was the one and only Erasmus Papafakis (real name). He and a couple other Oldhammer-ites came up with the idea of running a Space Bastard game. Basically, come up with a bunch of murderous, psychotic bastards, slap some power armor on them and send them on their way raping and pillaging everything in sight.
Initially I was just going to paint up some metal Rogue Trader marines in varied camouflage patterns, iconography, slogans etc..... but that's boring. I decided I would really embrace the idea and get to work putting together some lunatics. I used RTB01 plastics as the base for each model, but really went into a deep dive into my bits box.

Mercenaries!

Dirty! How I became a completionist

We all know one of them... those guys that just HAS to collect the entire range of something because the flyer was in their first White Dwarf. Yeah, i'm talking about those completionists... and now... i'm one of them.

Honestly, I don't even know how it happened. Actually I do know. Ebay has an app. That's why this happened. Now I have them all.... and they're ALL PAINTED. AND I'M GOING TO PLAY WITH THEM.

Remember Cadia

Cadian Veterans

If you keep up with current GW events you have probably heard that the 40k storyline is advancing and Cadia is falling to Chaos. Drama. I decided to have a little fun with the theme and get some miniatures painted.

Old is New is Old... is New?

Some Painted Stuff

Games Workshop has really stepped up their retro game in the past few years, which I think is great because they had really neglected some of their best games for a few years. While it's great to see games like Blood Bowl and supposedly Adeptus Titanicus come back, that ship sailed for me a while ago. I still snag up some current GW stuff from time to time, but with the exception of Forge World's Horus Heresy line, I pretty much leave it alone. Every now and then i'll snag up a miniature or a box of stuff because something catches my eye. One of those miniatures was the 30th anniversary marine.

The Guacamole Speakeasy

NOVAOSGROT 2017

It was an unseasonably warm Saturday afternoon in January when a dozen grown adults descended into a basement for a day of gaming and "Oldhammering". They milled around a bit at first, greeting familiar friends and welcoming the new faces. Some of the more regular guests wanted to get right down to business, but were quickly reminded of rule number one: ninety percent of Oldhammer is taking about Oldhammer.

Someone opened a case of ancient lead figures and money changed hands. An unsavory solicitor was selling boxes of corpses at the bar.  It wasn't long before the dice started rolling and the attending crowd cackled with delight as their heathen demonic figurines slaughtered each other in grisly games of chance.

And then finally, just when the debauchery could not become any more..... debaucherous....

...someone broke out the guacamole...

January Photo Dump!!

I lick brushes

So with real life and real work demands its always hard to get in that hobby time, but I always try and sit down for an hour a day and drag some brushes on some old lead. Even with a busy work schedule i've managed to knock out a nice chunk of figures so far this year. So... here's my shiny bits!

Merry Christmas!

Reinforcements!

A squad of absolute badasses. It's a Festivus miracle!

Short quickie post just to show off the latest addition to Inquisitor Serpico's force of jackbooted Imperial thugs! I present to you... Copplestone troopers! Yeah, they have arms and autoguns courtesy of Victoria Miniatures. The resin arms fit snugly with some minor greenstuff work and minimal frustration levels. I also threw in a Forgeworld flamer and a Chainsaw Warrior to give the squad a heavy weapon.

They're painted up to match troops that make up an Imperial Army detachment. I was going to go with the "codex grey and black" uniform scheme, but I like the end result and it's more colorful but still militaristic. Since it's getting close to the end of the year, I may as well do a year in review and touch on some projects i've got on deck.

2016: a brief, brief review

What a mixed bag this year has been! It's been a real shit-fest in the real world and I really hope we don't have a nuclear war on our hands in the next 12 months and maybe some of my favorite artists and celebrities can make it through 2017. Jeez.

Alright bitching is done. It's been a banner year for Oldhammer! Loads of killer kickstarters out there, I got to roll dice with some fellow New-Worlders and we managed to add a few more to our collective. Hobby-wise I've had a great year and i'm looking forward to getting together with some of the New World crew again in January.

Having so many meet-ups this year gave me the chance to test out all kinds of house rules for Rogue Trader, which resulted in the super fun Rogue Ops house rules!

2017 and beyyooooooooond!

I've been working on a campaign system for Rogue Trader/Rogue Ops which draws heavily from Necromunda, Mordheim, and Inquisitor. With Rogue Stars being all the rage these days, I'll probably end up plundering those rules for goodies. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Rogue Trader is the only fucking ruleset you will ever need. Add some house rules here and there and you can make it be whatever you want it to be. I hope to have some rudimentary campaign rules done by the end of January, hopefully in time for NOVAOSGROT 17 - THE premier Oldhammer USA event-of-the-year -OF-THE-YEAR. Be there or be square, you lame-ass lame-butts!

I've loaded up on holiday ebay deals that should keep me busy all year and should see my RT pirate force grow. The infamous Worldburner will be adding more Squat Mercenaries to his outfit and the Ork warband continue to grow. 2017 is shaping up to be another great year for Oldhammer!

Rogue Ops: House Rules!

Subterfuge in the 41st Millennium

So those of you who also follow Give'em Lead know that BlueinVT and I just spent a weekend in AirborneGrove26's basement in the US Midwest playing wargames and generally devolving into teenage boys. So the four day basement fest included games of 3rd edition Warhammer Fantasy Battle, Rogue Trader, Heroquest, and other assorted nonsense. One thing I had really been looking forward to was trying out some house rules that had been bouncing around in my head for a few months and I think the results were just super fantastic. I call the rules "Rogue Ops"

New Cult Followers!

The infestation grows...

The big news from Games Workshop and a dream come true for us old veterans of the tabletop space wars was the release of the brand new Genestealer Cult line and rules. Yaaay!! Woo! Welllll... I haven't bought any of the new stuff and I probably won't. I left the modern version of the game behind a while ago. While the new figures are everything I could have wanted and more, I guess i'm just too much of an old lead head. After all, my Genestealer Cult has been marauding around the Oldhammer World for a couple years now... and i'm not done yet! And so, without further delay, I bring you the latest additions to the cult!!

Not dead!

Radio Silence (And some Rogue Trader)

So... sorry for not posting in two months. Nothing crazy going on, just lots of work and I decided to spend my spare time painting and modelling instead of blogging. I've been working on an Epic scale force and plugging away at some non-Oldhammer related hobby stuff.

Sadly I won't be able to make it to USA Oldhammer day this year due to work obligations, but I did make it to Historicon and another Oldhammer Basement Bash and got a few Rogue Trader games in. Also, i'm looking forward to getting an Epic force put on the table.

Follow me to greatness!

Space Ork Raiders!!

Thrugg Bullneck and his Space Ork Raiders

I said I would never do it. I said " I don't need those, I have these ones already" Well... turns out i'm a liar. I did it... I succumbed to the call of monopose lead space orks from the 80's. And so, without further ado, I present Thrugg Bullneck and gang.
