MARCH MADNESS!!

Basketball?

Hell no! I'm talking about real games! Sorry for the long absence, but at least i'm posting something. First I will appease your anger with some eye candy, and then later I will explain myself.

Part 1. I think I have an infection.

NURGLE-URGLE-URGLE-URGLE!!!

This is what happens when you eat pudding without eating your meat first.

I've been in love with the Rouge Trader Death Guard miniatures since I was knee-high to a nurgling. I am a long time devotee of Nurgle and the Death Guard and i'm pretty sure it's because of the insidious effects of these little buggers.

I never actually owned these back in the day, but my best friend's older brother did. I hit him in the head with an algebra book.

Go forth and spread diseases!!

Some of these sculpts are just brilliant. The nurglings look playful and the marines look like they're just grossly shambling forth to spew vomit and pus everywhere.

I didn't want to stick with the dark green color scheme for these guys. If you, dear reader, are familiar with Pre-Heresy lore you will know that the Death Guard legion's color scheme is white with green trim and they were corrupted by Nurgle in the warp on their way to invade Earth and wreck the Emperor's pretty boys. I feel like their armor isn't green paint, it's just coated with ten thousand years of bile and vomit glazed with demon pee.

I wanted to go for a pale color scheme because it makes them look more ethereal and aged. I didn't really want to go with any weathering techniques because it doesn't really fit the look of these models, plus their armor is more like part of their body now.

Most of the paints I used were from the current GW line. I think they've really done a great job. The metallics in particular are fantastic. The pink I used is VMC Rose and it's quickly becoming one of my go-to paints. It has a really organic look and works well with flesh colors, but it still reads pink.

This tentacled guy is one of my personal favorites. He's just gross. I love it. I still have five more marines to paint and another gross surprise... stay tuned.

Part 2. Who needs enemies when you've got friends like these?

There comes a point in every hobbyist/wargamer's life where one of his deranged friends decides to go all in. What am I talking about? ONE OF MY FELLOW NERDS OPENED A GAME STORE!!!

Yes. It's true. Some of us function in society well enough to convince banks to give us money.

It brings me great pleasure to announce that Roanoke, Virginia, USA will soon be the proud host of a shiny new friendly local game store!!  MISHAP GAMES!!!

Check them out on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/mishapgames?fref=ts

So when your friend opens a store, you do what any self-respecting gamer does... you help his ass by volunteering your labor...

Here you see nerds wandering about aimlessly

This is what happens when you leave your stuff on the floor and you tell two military veterans to lay down the tarp. He learned his lesson. MWAH HA HA!

So we painted the walls, built some retail island thingies, cut some wood to make the tables.... work is hard. It's OK though. I was rewarded with Vietnamese food.

One of my three names doing actual work

Yes, that is a laser level. From what I can tell it is a useless machine that eats money.

As I type this the store is very close to opening. As you can see there is plenty of room for gaming, there is a room for RPG games, there is a dumpster in the back for CCG players (zing!) Just kidding, there will be room for out card-laden cousins. The owner is a friend of mine and he is genuinely passionate about building a wargaming community here in Southwest Virginia. Those of you who made it to Oldhammer In the New World saw his handiwork in the form of my Rogue Trader scenic table. He is no slouch as a hobbyist and painter and I couldn't think of a better person to operate a great store. SO... if you find yourself in Roanoke, VA in the scenic Shenandoah Valley swing by, roll some dice, and buy some shit!!! OPENING APRIL 1st!!

Until next time..... ADIOS!

  3. Those renegades are great! The pale colour scheme really pulls out some of the details, like the dark pink wash on the fleshy areas and the staring yellow eyes. Very nice indeed.

  6. Very nice work on those renegades, the absence of any weathering does work in their favour indeed. Taking this as one of the inspiration sources when painting my palanquin of Nurgle.
